Lessons Learned
Privacy isn't a feature—it's architecture. Retrofitting privacy into existing systems is nearly impossible. Building privacy-first from day one (stateless sessions, no logging) proved far simpler than the industry's typical "collect everything, secure later" approach.
Users trust transparency over polish. Open-sourcing the code and explicitly stating limitations ("this isn't therapy") built more credibility than slick marketing ever could. In mental health tech, honesty about what you can't do matters as much as showcasing capabilities.
Ethical AI requires human curation. While AI handles conversations, all support content remains human-reviewed. The 75% app failure rate taught me that automation without oversight creates harm—speed doesn't justify compromising safety.
