This project wasn't born in a corporate meeting room or a hackathon—it started during a 2 AM anxiety spiral when professional help wasn't available.

As a neurodivergent person, I've experienced firsthand the gap between "I need support right now" and "my therapist's next available appointment is in three weeks." The mental health system, despite best intentions, operates on schedules that don't align with how crisis moments actually happen. Anxiety doesn't wait for office hours. PTSD flashbacks don't check your calendar.

NeuroKit exists to bridge that gap—not as a replacement for therapy (it's not, and never will be), but as a compassionate first step when human help isn't immediately accessible.

Why I built this:

The neurodivergent community faces unique barriers: social anxiety makes calling helplines terrifying, executive dysfunction makes scheduling appointments nearly impossible, and the stigma around mental health means many hesitate to take that first step. I wanted to create something that meets people where they are—in their preferred messaging app, without judgment, available instantly.

But accessibility shouldn't mean sacrificing safety or ethics. Too many mental health apps treat user data as a product (75% fail basic privacy compliance). Too many AI chatbots hallucinate harmful advice or manipulate vulnerable users emotionally. I couldn't in good conscience add another questionable tool to that landscape.

Ethical foundation:

Every clinical test integrated into NeuroKit has explicit copyright holder consent. The AI is configured with evidence-based psychology frameworks (CBT, trauma-informed approaches), not just generic LLM responses. User data isn't collected, stored long-term, or monetized—ever. This isn't just marketing copy; it's architectural decisions baked into the codebase from day one.

Data persistence uses SQLite with a critical privacy constraint: no personally identifiable information is stored. User interactions are stateful during sessions but ephemeral after completion—conversations aren't logged, test results aren't retained server-side, and there's no tracking infrastructure.

  • No analytics tracking: Zero third-party SDKs, no Google Analytics, no user behavior telemetry
  • Telegram's infrastructure: Messages leverage Telegram's client-server encryption; bot doesn't store message history
  • Stateless sessions: After a user completes a test or conversation, no residual data persists
  • GDPR compliance by design: No data collection means no data to breach, export, or delete

PDF Report Generation:

The bot uses FPDF to generate clean, printable PDF reports of test results. These include:

  • Raw scores and clinical interpretation
  • Visual scale representations
  • Recommendations for next steps (therapy, self-help resources, crisis contacts)
  • Date-stamped for user records

PDFs are generated on-demand and delivered via Telegram—never stored on servers.
