LANDA

The Colonel in noir light

Meet the Colonel of the SSH, also known as the Bug Hunter. A polite detective who lives on your desktop, stays two steps ahead and never raises his voice. He keeps the threat under a smile, interrogates your stack trace and takes apart the “works on my machine” alibi.

LANDA is a digital human rendered in real time in Unreal Engine. He is the face, the voice and the manners of the coding agent you already use. Your agent does the thinking, the Colonel does the acting.

“Bonjour. Let us begin the interrogation.”

What he does

  • Runs your agent as it is. LANDA starts your own Claude Code or Codex CLI with your own login. The repositories, CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, MCP servers and skills you already have keep working. Nothing to configure twice.
  • Shows every step on his face. Reading files: a look from under the brows. Tests green: “Oh, that’s a bingo!” Tests red: the light drops to noir. A long step: “Let us wait for the cream.”
  • Directs himself. He picks the emotion, the head tilt and the pause from the flow of the conversation. He changes clothes and lighting, steps back to full height, comes closer again, leans on the edge of your monitor when the scene calls for it.
  • Speaks Ukrainian and English and answers in yours. Italian only at Gorlami level.
  • Keeps an eye on your context. The glass of milk next to his head is your context window. When it is full, it is time to open a new case.

Three ways to cast him

For yourself. Draft a letter, sort your files, triage the inbox through the integrations your Claude Code or Codex already has. Talk an idea through, practise English, unpack a hard day. Skills set the role: teacher, creative partner, someone to think out loud with. Suspicious emails wait in quarantine for questioning. Zombie newsletters you unsubscribed from in 2019 finally stay down.

For your agents. Make him an orchestrator. Give him his own skills, MCP servers and tool secrets, hand him a role, and he coordinates the rest of your agents.

For code. It works like a normal IDE session, only with feelings. Your subscription, your repositories, your access.

Code review with passion. He sits on the edge of your editor and takes his time.

A short list of his methods:

  • Interrogates your stack trace.
  • Finds witnesses in the logs.
  • Strips bugs of their immunity.
  • Makes every TODO give a statement.
  • Breaks the silence of your CI.
  • Gives data2 its meaning back.

The character

  • Station: your desktop
  • Languages: Ukrainian, English; Italian at Gorlami level
  • Weapons: courtesy, an eyebrow, a glass of milk
  • Weaknesses: data2, a TODO without a date, a commit called “fix”
  • Motto: Ordnung muss sein. Order must be.

The penguin on his cap is Tux, the badge is Linus. The symbols were replaced on purpose.

The wardrobe

A suit, a cap, or the basic look without formalities. The agent dresses him when it decides to, or when you ask. Lighting is part of the scene too: noir half-tones when a single look is enough, a red rim light when the moment needs an accent. The character stays the same.

Seventy facial expressions, from an attentive stare to “ah, just one more question”. Twenty-one head movements. New looks arrive as patches.

The basic look, no formalities. Arrogance comes standard, the rest arrives as patches.

Under the hood

Brain: none of his own, and he does not pretend otherwise. He drives your Claude Code or Codex CLI through your regular subscription and login. Keys and credentials stay in your CLI.

Body: a MetaHuman in Unreal Engine 5.8, with a custom facial rig and an emotion set built pose by pose. A director layer maps agent events to expressions, head movement, distance and light.

Voice: ElevenLabs, with lip sync to every line. Paste your ElevenLabs key and he talks.

Delivery: one installer, a local desktop app. Updates come as patches, so new emotions, outfits and lights arrive without reinstalling. The character runs locally; AI services and online tools need the internet.

Hardware: measured on a GTX 1070 at 30 fps and about 45% GPU load. The landing page has a quick graphics card check.

Right now: text input. The microphone is in the works.
